The American Idol audience had an A-list star in its midst last night.Kate Hudson was in the crowd as the final 12 hopefuls performed hits from the year they were born. But it seems the pregnant actress, 31, who was joined by boyfriend Matt Bellamy and son Ryder, 7, didn’t exactly get the VIP treatment. She was sat in the back row which even surprised the show’s host, Ryan Seacrest.

He joked from the stage: ‘I got to get you better seats. I feel bad you are way up there.’

Hudson came over all shy as the cameras cut to her and she even hid behind two packets of crisps. She cheered on as Pia Toscano and Stefano Langone impressed judges Jennifer Jopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson with their moving renditions.
